HERBALIFE NUTRITION FOUNDATION SUPPORTS NEW PERTH CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL SIMULATION SUITE

AUSTRALIA, August 2018 –
The Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF),  a non-profit corporation dedicated to improving children's lives around the world by helping provide access to good nutrition, has helped fund an innovative Simulation Suite at the new Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH). The initiative ensures the hospital has access to the latest equipment and technology for paediatric training, while allowing doctors and medical teams to refine their skills in a controlled and safe environment.

The suite includes a dedicated theatre, an emergency department cubicle, and a mobile unit that can be taken onto wards for training. A wide range of scenarios will be simulated in this facility, including diabetes complications, re-feeding syndrome in adolescents with anorexia or infants with malnutrition, and complications of obesity and type 2 diabetes. The Simulation Suite’s state of the art technology will also be open to teach current and future professionals from other hospitals in the wider Perth area.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation. It allows us to ensure the thousands of children from throughout Western Australia who are cared for at PCH every year receive the best possible care and treatment.  From funding vital equipment to helping out with nutrition education related activities at the hospital, the Herbalife Nutrition team are key to helping us to transform the health and wellbeing of children,” said Carrick Robinson, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Dr Tom Rawlings is one of the experts leading the Simulation Suite initiative. “We are very grateful to the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation. With their support, we have been able to purchase the latest high fidelity paediatric simulation manikins. With this equipment we are able to put our hospital teams and external personnel, through intense, immersive paediatric training in a safe and controlled environment. This enables our teams to react and respond faster and better to emergency situations regarding sick or injured children. This has the benefit of improved quality and safety of paediatric patient care for the whole of Western Australia as well as providing a great team building and morale boosting experience for staff,” said Dr Tom Rawlings.

Shobie King, Vice President/ Sub-Regional General Manager, Southeast Asia, Herbalife Nutrition, expressed her excitement over the new Simulation Suite and congratulates the team on the opening of the new Hospital.

“The Herbalife Nutrition Foundation has been able to support this extremely worthwhile cause through our Casa Herbalife program, which provides grants to charitable organisations to ensure children receive healthy nutrition, nutrition education and the support of community volunteers. We are also proud to support the new Hospital’s Fun on Floor Suite, where nutrition-education programs and healthy active lifestyle activities supported by Herbalife Nutrition Employees and Members will be held in the near-future.”
